Dermatitis Prevention Prevention of Dermatitis: The most basic method of prevention of dermatitis is to avoid that which causes the problem. The key is to know what types of dermatitis you have and what causes the reactionary response. I t can difficult to isolate the cause of the irritation so one may begin by considering the more common culprits: wool, polyester, soaps and detergents, metals, dye used in shoes, lotions, perfumes, food allergies, poisonous plants. Once you isolate the suspected culprits, you can begin to look for specific things that cause the reaction. For instance in shoes, it’s generally the darker dyes; natural leather may be the answer.
